Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubramaniam who is shortly called as S P Balasubramaniam was soon nicknamed as SPB when he because the talk of Chennai town. SPB started his career as a playback singer in Telugu movies and slowly started to occupy other regional languages too. His voice is marvelous and his dedication to music is outstanding. He has tried directing music and acting too. He has produced quite a few movies and he has given dubbing voices.
For his superb performance in films almost in all languages, he has won the National Film Award for being the best Male Playback singer for about six times and his regional award are innumerous. South Indian Languages in which he has shown his talents are Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. He has been too good with north Indian languages too. Hindi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit and Gondi are a few languages in which he has sung songs.
SPB’s early life is interesting especially when comes to the part of music. He did not train himself officially with a music master. He had developed a deep interest in music and started singing as his hobby. He had learnt notations from his father and then learnt to play a few common musical instruments like flute and harmonium. However, just like all other Indian kids, overwhelming family support to education made him do his engineering. While he was pursing engineering for his family, he had not forgotten his passion with music. He had won several famous music competitions at his early age.
Once he got a chance to sing his first song in films, he started band, which could be called as the star band, because it had almost all famous music stars in it. Gangai Amaran and Ilaiyaraj played harmonium and guitar, Anirutta played harmonium too. Baskar was taking care of percussion. With such a troupe, it would be impossible to say victory is hard to come. He started his career in 1966 with south Indian films and it took him more than a decade to start a career with Hindi films. His first break through song in Hindi in the year 1981 Ek Duje Ke Liye gave him a bright start.
He started his voice career for some of the famous actors like Kamal, Rajini, Salman Khan, Mohan and Anil Kapoor. His knowledge about different languages has given him a wide exposure that helps him meet the pinnacle of success easily.
